February’s meeting was very well attended. My thanks to everyone. It makes the Executives job worthwhile when people are prepared to make the effort to come along and especially when they are prepared to have their input into the discussion. Everyone’s opinion is greatly appreciated.
We had a very lively discussion concerning the National Executives outlook concerning WA’s proposed advertising website. Quite a few ideas were put forward for discussion, the meeting con?rming that they wanted the idea to proceed in an amicable way. A new proposal has been placed before the National Executive to try to achieve our aims.
Discussion on the changes to the Health Fund accessibility for Remedial Masseurs was undertaken. Some level of dismay was expressed over the fact that people have been undertaking Remedial Massage training with accredited ARM Teachers without having the information provided to them that these Diploma’s would need to be signi?cantly upgraded when the proposed Government changes were introduced. The WA Branch Executive have sent a proposal to the National Executive with the aim of addressing the situation. In the meantime, discussion with TAFE lecturers has been ongoing. Susan Rollason from TAFE will attend the May meeting to explain the changes and TAFE’s courses that are available to enable the necessary upgrade to the D087 Remedial Massage Diploma and what is required to obtain RPL’s.(Recognition of Prior Learning)
Vilma Telek presented the workshop on Hungarian Massage Techniques. This technique uses ice as a method of reducing muscular pain, enabling deep tissue massage to be applied with much reduced discomfort for the Patient. Thanks go to Vilma for her time and effort.
The WA Branch has agreed to provide our services to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Members interested in providing treatment to children suffering Muscular Dystrophy are requested to contact one of the WA Executive to be included in the project. The meeting set a fee of $20.00 per session. Some members will provide a volunteer service, some will charge then donate the money to MDA, and some will retain the monies. The choice is yours. Remember that if you charge for service, you may not be able to claim the points towards your CPE. Leslie Murphy, MDA’s Director of Community Support will administer the program and will also organise for interested members to tour the MDA Headquarters. Dates will be advised. Initially treatment will be on children around ?ve years of age to assess the bene?t. Hopefully we will be able to slow the progression of the muscle deformity and improve their quality of life.
