OUTCOMES FROM THE WORKSHOP:

The workshop will be delivered in 2 parts: Part 1 Anatomy & Physiology of the Lymph Vessel System and oedema formation. Part 2 Who is at risk? Living with lymph oedema, its management and long term effects.

The workshop will give participants an in depth and up to date understanding of the lymphatic system, its importance in tissue health and the problems that occur when it is damaged or malformed. Lymph oedema is a lifelong affliction that affects the quality of life of many Australians and yet it remains largely hidden, poorly diagnosed and almost completely unfunded in our health care system. At the end of this workshop participants will be able to give their clients advice about preventing the onset of lymph oedema after cancer therapy, understand the role of the massage therapist in the treatment of lymph oedema and make appropriate referrals for undiagnosed oedemas.  Manual lymph drainage, compression therapies and emerging therapies will be discussed and described.
